Haiku poems were created in Japenese culture centuries ago. Haiku poems have rules that you need to follow about how many lines the poem can be, and how many syllables are in each line. The style of haiku poem that we learn has 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Here are some examples.

*A syllable is a sound or 'beat' inside of a word as you say it out loud.
For example the word 'haiku' has 2 syllables: hai-ku
The word 'poetry' has 3 syllables: po-e-try
